CLASS NEWS 

• Summer Staycation Bingo and Summer Reading Program: This Friday, September 9th is the last day to turn in your Staycation Bingos to Frau Rita and to complete the Summer Reading Program online form, for a chance to win prizes. 
• Agendas: Please send $8.25 to school in a labeled envelope at your earliest convenience, so that your child can use his/her agenda. Online payment on SZ also available.
• Home Reading Program:  We started a new reading program, with monthly prizes and a monthly draw for free Laser Quest passes. The school library won't be open for business until Thursday, so your child won't have library until Wednesday, September 14th.  Students are encouraged to go to the public library if they do not have any books at home.  Ask them about the YRCA books. If your child doesn't have a library card, I will distribute Library Cards Forms on Meet the Teacher night.
• Meet the Teacher this Thursday, September 8th beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the gym/401. Hope you can make it!
• AMA patrols sheet due this week. Please read carefully with your child. This is a commitment for the whole year.
• Mathletics: We have access to a very valuable resource, at school as well as at home.Your child's log in information is on the first page of the agenda. Please read this letter to familiarize yourself with Mathletics and see how you can support your child using this learning tool.
• Volunteer Sign Up:This Wednesday morning, I will be sending a Google Doc for parents to sign up to help out with field trips, classroom parties and Read-In week.  Please note the following:
  Page 1--Fieldtrips which will include both grades
  Page 2: Field trips for only grade 5 students
  Page 3: Field trips for only grade 6 students
  The next pages will include classroom parties and Read-In week.
  On Thursday evening at Meet the Teacher, you may also sign up, but some spots may be already taken. 

UPCOMING DATES AND EVENTS

Friday, September 9th:  Schultüten Assembly in the gym, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Monday, September 12th, 2 pm: City Hall School Teacher Linda Hut visiting our classroom to hand our students the key of the city and brainstorm about possible activities during our week at City Hall School (January 2017).

Wednesday, September 14th:  First running at Laurier Park for the Cross Country Running Club members

Friday, September 16th:  Rio Rocks all afternoon

Monday, September 19th:  First School Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. 

Friday, September 23rd:  Picture Day

Wednesday, September 28th:  Running race at Millwoods Park for the Cross Country Running Club members
